Samsung SDI launches high-performance lithium manganese iron phosphate battery

 


【Lansheng Technology Limited】According to businesskorea, on September 4, local time, at the world's largest auto show IAA Mobility 2023 held in Munich, Germany, Samsung SDI demonstrated for the first time a lithium iron manganese phosphate battery, which added manganese to the lithium iron phosphate cathode material.


Samsung SDI has been focusing on the production of high-nickel ternary batteries, and now this high-performance battery is targeting the lithium iron phosphate market. Lithium iron phosphate batteries for vehicles are dominated by Chinese companies, accounting for more than 90% of the global market share, and are increasingly used by brands such as Tesla, Hyundai Motor, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-Benz.


Traditional lithium iron phosphate batteries have the advantages of low manufacturing cost and high safety, but low energy density, resulting in short driving mileage. Manganese-infused lithium iron phosphate batteries overcome these limitations and are gaining attention as a breakthrough technology. At a similar price, it can increase energy density by about 15-20%.


In addition, Samsung SDI has also introduced a new "side battery" form factor, which shifts the positive and negative terminals of the battery cell from the top and bottom to the side. This design allows for the addition of cooling systems at the top and bottom for enhanced thermal safety.
