Vishay Introduces Industry-Advanced Small 6A, 20A and 25A Buck Regulator Modules to Increase POL Converter Power Density

【Lansheng Technology Information】September 6, 2023 - Vishay Technology announced the launch of new 6A, 20A and 25A microBRICK® synchronous buck regulators - SiC967, SiC931 and SiC951, used to improve the point of load (POL) Converter power density and efficiency. The Vishay Siliconix SiC967, SiC931 and SiC951 are housed in a 10.6x6.5x3mm package with a smaller footprint and height than similar devices on the market, with an input voltage range of 4.5 to 60V.

The regulator modules released today are 69 percent smaller than other solutions, and each module integrates two high-performance MOSFETs, an inductor, a controller, and requires minimal external components for configuration and loop compensation. Device miniaturization significantly increases power density, while high integration reduces design complexity and speeds time to market. The regulator's controller consumes little static power and has a peak efficiency of up to 97%. MicroBRICK regulators are ideal for data center, communications infrastructure, and industrial applications, efficiently powering FPGA, ASIC, and SoC core supplies, helping to reduce energy consumption.

The regulator is highly configurable with a wide input voltage range and an adjustable output voltage down to 0.3V. In addition, the SiC931 has four programmable switching frequencies of 600kHz, 1MHz, 1.5MHz and 2MHz, and the adjustable switching frequencies of the SiC967 and SiC951 are 100kHz to 2MHz and 300kHz to 1.5MHz, respectively. All three devices can adjust the current limit, the SiC931 can also adjust the soft start, and the PMBus 1.3 compliant SiC951 supports three operating modes: continuous, tracking and simultaneous.

The voltage regulator modules provide general-purpose solutions for a wide range of applications, including server POL converters, cloud computing, high-performance computing, desktops, industrial automation, motor drives and power tools, monitoring systems, consumer electronics, and 5G communication equipment. For these applications, the SiC951 and SiC967 offer three operating modes: forced continuous operation, ultrasonic and energy saving. SiC931 provides forced continuous operation and power-saving mode. In power-saving mode, when the inductor current crosses zero, the control circuit turns off the low-side MOSFET and deploys diode emulation mode. Switching frequency drops proportionally with load conditions. There is no lower limit to the switching frequency to achieve the highest possible efficiencies at light loads.
