Microchip launches new 32-bit MCU with integrated embedded hardware security module to protect industrial and consumer applications

To allow designers to easily integrate security features into applications, Microchip Technology Inc. has announced the new PIC32CZ CA 32-bit microcontroller family. The devices feature a 300 MHz Arm® Cortex®-M7 processor, an integrated hardware security module (HSM), and support for multiple connectivity and flash memory options for increased flexibility.
The new PIC32CZ CA device family includes the PIC32CZ CA90 with integrated HSM or the PIC32CZ CA80 without integrated HSM. The HSM in the PIC32CZ CA90 is a monolithic solution that provides advanced security for industrial and consumer applications. HSM operates as a security subsystem with an onboard independent MCU, running firmware and security functions, including hardware secure boot, key storage, encryption acceleration, true random number generator, etc.
For products requiring higher security, the PIC32CZ CA90 offers factory preconfiguration capabilities, providing customers with preconfigured devices for deployment. Microchip’s Trusted Platform Development Kit is an in-house security configuration tool that enables secure supply chain channels for high-volume or low-volume production.

PIC32CZ CA microcontrollers can be configured with a variety of connectivity options, including USART/UART, I2C, SPI, CAN FD, Hi-Speed USB and Gigabit Ethernet. Ethernet connections include Audio Video Bridging (AVB) and Precision Time Protocol (PTP) based on the IEEE 1588 standard.
The devices are expandable with 2, 4 or 8 MB onboard Flash, 1 MB SRAM and error-correcting code (ECC) memory to reduce data corruption.
