Toshiba announces delisting

【Lansheng Technology News】On October 12, Toshiba Corporation announced that it will hold an extraordinary shareholders' meeting on November 22 to approve its stock merger, and the company will delist from the Tokyo Stock Exchange on December 20.

On September 21, Japan's Toshiba Corporation announced that a consortium led by Japan's domestic fund "Japan Industrial Partners" had completed a tender offer for Toshiba, clearing the way for Toshiba's privatization and delisting. After the transaction is completed, Toshiba, which has been on the market for 74 years, will be delisted as soon as this year.

It is understood that "Japan Industrial Partners" has raised 78.65% of the shares from Toshiba shareholders, exceeding the minimum threshold of 66.7% of the shares, and the acquisition was established.

Toshiba's delisting would cap a troubled decade for the company, which dates back to 1875 but has been hit by scandals and deep losses since 2015.

Toshiba, once known for its technological innovations, paid Japan's largest-ever fine in 2015 for falsifying financial statements.

The company then suffered a disastrous push into nuclear energy, forcing it to take a $6.3 billion write-down and sell off its "crown jewel" memory chip business, which has now been reorganized into Kioxia Holdings.

In 2021, the company announced plans to split into three divisions, but revised that plan in 2022 in favor of a two-way split. The then-CEO resigned to take responsibility for the mess, after which the board began soliciting bids to take the company private.

According to media reports, in the Chinese market, Toshiba currently still continues to promote operations in B-side businesses such as semiconductor business, storage, motors, and elevators. At the same time, Toshiba is also cooperating with Midea on white home appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, and vacuum cleaners, and with Hisense on black home appliances such as video technology through joint shareholding and brand licensing.

Founded in 1875, Toshiba was once regarded as the "Light of Japan" and one of the main representatives of Japan's manufacturing industry. It has built a huge business empire spanning home appliances, electrical appliances, semiconductors, energy, infrastructure and other fields.

Over the past 148 years of development, Toshiba has built a huge business system spanning home appliances, electrical appliances, semiconductors, energy, infrastructure, etc. It has successively created Japan's first light bulb, first washing machine, first refrigerator, first radar, first television and many other firsts, becoming the world's top five semiconductor manufacturers and the world's top three medical devices.
