STMicroelectronics launches high-precision digital power monitor chip that supports MIPI I3C to improve power utilization and reliability

【Lansheng Technology News】STMicroelectronics has launched the TSC1641 precision digital current, voltage and power monitor chip, which has a high-precision input channel and supports the MIPI I3C advanced bus interface.

The TSC1641 helps optimize power utilization and reliability in applications such as industrial battery packs, power inverters, DC power supplies, data center and telecommunications equipment, and power tools. The monitoring chip simultaneously monitors the DC current and voltage through a dual-channel 16-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and calculates the power inside the chip. Synchronized current and voltage measurements ensure accurate power calculations.

Communicating with the main controller through I2C and SMBus and MIPI I3C interfaces, the chip can also report monitoring results and send out alarm signals when current, voltage, power and temperature are too high or too low to prevent circuit burnout. The chip also provides an alarm indication pin and integrates a temperature monitoring sensor to save external components.

The voltage range up to 60V allows STMicroelectronics' TSC1641 to be used in a variety of industrial environments. Monitor current with an external shunt resistor, providing flexibility for high-side, low-side, and bidirectional measurements. Off-mode power consumption is only 50nA, ensuring minimal impact on overall system power consumption.

The MIPI I3C interface allows designers to connect the TSC1641 directly to advanced microcontrollers, such as STMicroelectronics' STM32H5 series, providing auxiliary functions for system monitoring. The interface supports data rates up to 12.5MHz and does not require pull-up resistors, which helps reduce bill of materials cost and save board space.
