STMicroelectronics’ new generation NFC controller has built-in security unit and supports STPay-Mobile digital wallet service

【Lansheng Technology News】STMicroelectronics releases ST54L NFC controller and security unit in one chip. After installing this chip, mobile devices such as smartphones, smart wearables and tablets can access securely protected contactless ticket purchase and payment services through the STPay-Mobile platform.

The ST54L released by STMicroelectronics can carry a variety of services, including mobile payments, mobile bus cards, digital car keys and other NFC applications, as well as converged services that require embedded SIM cards (eSIM). The chip runs the Thales Mobile Security Operating System on an embedded security unit, a combination developed by STMicroelectronics and Thales and certified for security.

Compared with the previous generation, the new product ST54L chip enhances NFC radio frequency performance and expands non-volatile storage capacity by more than 50% to 3.3MB. The larger storage space not only allows more services to be installed on the device, but also provides sufficient storage space for users to download additional eSIM profiles to support multi-operator network activation profiles (MEP) or security applications.

ST54L is now in mass production and integrated into Google’s newly launched Google Pixel 8 mobile phone. The chip has been verified by many major mobile phone platform manufacturers, ensuring that smartphone device manufacturers can smoothly integrate this chip.

STMicroelectronics manufactures the ST54L chips in its own fabs using proprietary embedded flash technology and has delivered them through its internal supply chain.
