High-NA EUV R&D center will be established in New York State, USA

【Lansheng Technology News】On December 12, New York State announced that it would cooperate with IBM, Micron and other industry players to invest US$10 billion to expand the Albany Nanotechnology Park and establish a new High NA EUV center, which will promote semiconductor technology innovation in the next decade.

New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced a partnership between IBM, Micron, Applied Materials, Tokyo Electron and other companies to establish the Albany Semiconductor Technology Center, a next-generation semiconductor R&D center in New York. The partnership will invest $10 billion to fund the construction of a cutting-edge High NA extreme ultraviolet lithography center—the first and only publicly owned High NA EUV center in North America.

To support the project, the state will invest $1 billion to expand the Albany Nanotechnology Park to establish a High NA EUV center through the purchase of ASML's EXE:5200 High NA EUV equipment and the construction of the NanoFab Reflection. Featuring more than 50,000 square feet of clean room space, this new, highly sophisticated building will encourage future partner development and support the National Semiconductor Technology Center, the National Advanced Packaging Manufacturing Program and the Department of Defense Microelectronics Sharing Program, among others.

New York State has attracted IBM Research’s CMOS technology development facility, Tokyo Electron’s U.S. Technology Center, Applied Materials META Center, GlobalFoundries’ flagship facility, and Danfoss’ power electronics packaging facility. In October 2022, New York State signed the nation's first green chip legislation. The governor of the state announced that Micron will make a historic investment of US$100 billion to establish a state-of-the-art cutting-edge memory manufacturing park in downtown New York, which will create 50,000 job opportunity. Since signing the green chip, the state's governor has also announced major investments by several other semiconductor manufacturers and semiconductor supply chain companies, including AMD, Edwards Vacuum and TTM Technologies.

In a 2023 New York government address, Governor Hochul announced the establishment of a $45 million State Office of Semiconductor Expansion, Manufacturing and Integration, or GO-SEMI, to oversee and be responsible for the state's semiconductor industry.
