Infineon expands ISOFACE product portfolio with four-channel digital isolators for industrial and automotive applications

【Lansheng Technology News】December 8, 2023 Modern electronic systems in automotive and industrial applications require powerful, efficient and precise data communication capabilities to ensure optimal performance. To meet these needs, Infineon Technologies AG announces the launch of the ISOFACE™ quad-channel digital isolator, further expanding its broad isolation technology and product portfolio.

ISOFACE four-channel digital isolators are divided into two categories: the AEC-Q100 certified ISOFACETM 4DIRx4xxHA series products are specially used for automotive applications such as on-board chargers (OBC), battery management systems (BMS), inverters, motor controls, etc.; compliant with JEDEC The standard ISOFACE 4DIRx4xxH series is designed for industrial applications such as renewable energy, servers, telecommunications, industrial switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), industrial automation, and isolated serial peripheral interfaces (SPI). These products are packaged in a 300 mil PG-DSO-16 wide body package and have four data channels, which provide stronger isolation capabilities and ensure reliable data communication in harsh environments.

ISOFACE four-channel digital isolators operate from a supply voltage range of 2.7 to 6.5 V. Despite such a wide supply voltage range, these digital isolators are still very power efficient, with a maximum current consumption of only 1.6 mA per channel when operating at up to 1 Mbps at a 3.3 V supply voltage and 15 pF load capacitance. In addition, Infineon’s robust coreless transformer (CT) technology provides strong system noise immunity (common-mode transient immunity of at least 100 kV/µs) and can withstand isolation voltages up to 5700 Vrms.

ISOFACE digital isolators are rugged and particularly suitable for working in challenging and difficult environments such as extreme temperature conditions. Among them, isolators for automotive applications can effectively operate under Class I ambient temperature conditions and can withstand temperatures as low as -40°C and as high as +125°C, fully demonstrating their durability. These isolators can cope with various environmental challenges, such as voltage transients, electromagnetic interference (EMI), electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical interference, etc., ensuring stable and reliable performance. Due to low propagation delay and minimal channel-to-channel mismatch, they provide precise timing performance, reducing the risk of corruption and ensuring data integrity. In addition, their pins are compatible with each other, which increases the stability of the power supply and thereby improves the reliability of the entire system.

These isolators excel at minimizing signal noise over a wide supply voltage range, and their precise timing performance and compatibility enable high power density designs. Semiconductor component-level and system-level certification simplify the safety certification process and speed time to market, making ISOFACE digital isolators ideal for robust, efficient electronic systems.
