ROHM and Quanmatic use quantum technology to optimize manufacturing processes and complete verification

 


【Lansheng Technology News】Rohm has been collaborating with Quanmatic Inc. since January 2023 to test and introduce quantum technology in the EDS process, one of the semiconductor manufacturing processes, to optimize the combination in the manufacturing process. At present, both parties have achieved certain results in improving production efficiency, and the goal is to officially apply the results in April 2024. It is the first time in the world that quantum technology can optimize the manufacturing process on a large-scale mass production line in a semiconductor manufacturing plant.


In recent years, many fields have attempted to utilize quantum technology. In particular, quantum annealing algorithms*2 are increasingly used in combinatorial optimization fields such as distribution route optimization in the logistics industry. On the other hand, in the semiconductor industry, as the number of manufacturing processes increases, the number of combinations increases exponentially, and there are many constraints, so it is difficult to obtain the optimal solution. Currently, the application of quantum technology in production processes is limited to Similar to what a classical computer can do.


The same applies to the EDS process. The number of combinations of production equipment, test equipment, test conditions, etc. is huge, so it is difficult to come up with a solution to optimize the manufacturing process even if it is only part of the process. Therefore, in the past, operations (process division) were usually carried out based on basic calculation rules and using accumulated knowledge and technology.


Against this background, ROHM and Quanmatic began research in January 2023 on an operating system using quantum solutions that takes into account various constraints in the EDS process. Quanmatic has a quantum computing technology efficiency improvement product group based on the research results of Waseda University and Keio University, a computing framework that fully utilizes quantum and classical computing technology, and specialized formulation technology. On this basis, Quanmatic integrates ROHM’s accumulated experience over the years. With a wealth of knowledge, technical skills and various data, the two parties successfully built a prototype in September 2023.


Through testing and verification of the prototype at ROHM domestic and overseas factories, it was confirmed that target indicators such as operation rate and delivery delay rate were improved by several percentage points each. By forming algorithms, calculation time can also be greatly shortened, making it possible to perform timely and appropriate operations based on changes in manufacturing conditions.


Next, the two parties will further deepen cooperation and further improve the accuracy of the operating system through repeated trial operations in overseas factories, striving to officially put it into operation in April 2024.
