STMicroelectronics and Indie Semiconductor collaborate to enhance privacy and security for in-vehicle wireless charging

【Lansheng Technology News】STMicroelectronics recently launched the wireless charging safety unit chip STSAFE-V100-Qi. The secure unit enhances passenger privacy and data security when charging portable devices. STMicroelectronics also revealed that it is cooperating with indie semiconductor company, which specializes in automotive semiconductors, to integrate STMicroelectronics’ new safety unit in indie’s Qi wireless car charger reference design.

STMicroelectronics’ new safety unit chip enables in-vehicle charging to comply with the latest specification from the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) for the use of safety units to protect charging safety. The chip has also obtained the Common Criteria (CC) highest security level EAL4+ certification for Qi chargers, ensuring that the wireless charger has stronger information security protection functions.

Test results prove that in security-focused applications such as bank cards, transportation cards, and identity protection, STMicroelectronics’ secure unit series chips can protect the confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity of information and devices, contributing to this automotive regulation. Wireless charger reference design optimizes end-user charging experience and charging safety.

Fred Jarrar, vice president and general manager of the power and USB product line at indie Semiconductor, said: "indie's advanced Qi wireless charging semiconductor solutions enhance the user's charging experience in the car, bringing convenient portable device charging capabilities to all models. ST The security unit brings a high level of cybersecurity protection to our reference design, providing brand protection for automotive customers, information security and power security for passengers, allowing them to charge safely and worry-free."

Laurent Degauque, director of cybersecurity marketing at STMicroelectronics, said: “By integrating the STSAFE-V100-Qi chip, this wireless charging reference design can meet the latest WPC specifications and the universal standard EAL4+ security level, ensuring charging safety with a maximum charging power of 15W. As a result, indie customers will receive a high-quality charging system with the highest level of safety.”
