Intel boosts Granite Rapids Xeon CPU cache to 480 MB

 


【Lansheng Technology News】On January 22, according to the latest entry in Intel SDE 9.33.0, its next-generation Granite Rapids Xeon CPU will see a significant cache improvement. The top model’s L3 cache capacity can reach up to 480 MB, which is equivalent to 1.5 times that of “Emerald Rapids” .


In fact, the capacity of Intel's fifth-generation Emerald Rapids L3 cache, which was just launched last month, has grown by leaps and bounds, jumping directly from the previous generation's 105 MB to 320 MB.


Now it seems that the company's upcoming sixth-generation Granite Rapids Xeon CPUs, expected to be released in February 2024, will once again enhance cache performance, indicating that Intel is determined to catch up with AMD.


The existing AMD EPYC 9004 CPU can provide up to 384 MB of L3 cache, and the 3D V-Cache model Genoa-X is even equipped with a total of 1152 MB of (L3) cache. Intel currently has no similar products to compete with.


If nothing else, Intel’s Granite Rapids Xeon CPU will compete with AMD’s Zen 5 architecture EPYC Turin chips, and these new products will bring larger cache capacity.

· Sapphire Rapids: 60 cores -112.5 MB L3 cache

· AMD EPYC Genoa: 96 cores -384 MB L3 cache

· AMD EPYC Genoa-X: 96 cores -1152 MB L3 cache
