Microchip launches 10 multi-channel remote temperature sensors

To fill this gap, Microchip Technology Inc. launched the MCP998x series of 10 automotive-grade remote temperature sensors. The MCP998x family is one of the industry's largest portfolios of automotive-grade multi-channel temperature sensors, achieving 1°C accuracy over a wide operating temperature range. Five sensors in this device family have shutdown temperature settings that cannot be overridden by software or maliciously disabled.


This product family features up to five monitoring channels and multiple alarm and shutdown options to support systems monitoring more than one thermal element. The remote sensor also integrates resistance error correction and beta compensation to improve accuracy without additional configuration. Using a single integrated temperature sensor to monitor temperature at multiple locations reduces board complexity, shrinks size, and simplifies design, thereby reducing bill of materials (BOM).


The MCP998x family of devices is more accurate, with 2.5°C accuracy up to 125°C, allowing use at the upper end of the traditional temperature range, where many competitors fall short. This high-temperature resistance makes it ideal for automotive applications, where electronic component operating temperature is a major consideration in automobiles. MCP998x sensors are designed to support HID lights, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), automotive servers, video processing, infotainment systems, engine control, telematics and body electronics such as seat controls, lighting systems, mirror controls and Power windows) and other automotive functions.
