Samsung partners with RedHat to successfully verify CXL memory for the first time

 


【Lansheng Technology News】Samsung announced on January 4 that it had cooperated with open source software provider Red Hat to successfully verify the operation of CXL (Compute Express Link) memory in a real user environment for the first time in the industry, leading the expansion of the CXL ecosystem.


CXL is a unified interface standard that connects CPU, GPU, memory, etc. through PCIe protocol. CXL memory is designed to adapt to the data throughput in emerging fields such as generative artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, and in-memory databases (IMDB). It can be expanded on the basis of existing systems to improve speed, latency, and scalability.


Samsung Electronics' executive vice president of memory product planning said that cooperation with Red Hat will enrich and accelerate the development of the entire CXL ecosystem.


The latest validation from both parties was conducted on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.3 operating system and verified memory identification, read and write operations in KVM and Podman environments, making it easy for data center customers to use CXL memory without the need for existing Additional adjustments to the hardware.


The person in charge of Red Hat's Asia-Pacific region said that this successful verification is of great significance and can extend the applicability of CXL memory to the opportunities IaaS1 and PaaS software provided by Red Hat. This is the integration of hardware and software to establish an open source for next-generation memory development. An important milestone for the ecosystem.


It is reported that Samsung and Red Hat first signed a memorandum of understanding in May 2022. The ongoing cooperation between the two parties covers a range of storage products, including NVMe SSD, CXL memory, in-memory computing/storage structures, etc.
