Toshiba temporarily closes NAND flash memory factory
【Lansheng Technology News】According to foreign media reports on January 4, Japan’s 7.6-magnitude earthquake forced chip and electronics companies in Ishikawa Prefecture to temporarily close their doors. Affected companies include Toshiba, Global Wafers, Murata, etc.
Foreign media reported that Toshiba has announced the closure of its NAND flash memory factory in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture to conduct a safety assessment. The company said it will decide when to resume production once it completes an assessment of the production lines.
In addition, Toshiba said it had confirmed that all employees who went to work at the factory in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture on the day of the earthquake were safe, but that it had not yet contacted employees who were on leave.
It is reported that Toshiba is not the only company affected by the earthquake. Taiyo Yuden, Tower, Shin-Etsu, Global Wafer and TPSCo (a joint venture between Tower and Nuvoton) have also temporarily stopped production of semiconductor products.
