Diodes launches boost/SEPIC controller to achieve 50kHz LED wide PWM dimming in automotive lighting product applications


 

【Lansheng Technology News】Diodes recently launched a boost/single-ended primary inductor converter controller suitable for various automotive LED product applications. The AL8853AQ is an automotive-qualified, highly integrated boost/SEPIC controller that reduces the bill of materials (BOM) of automotive LED product applications including exterior lights, headlights, head-up displays (HUD) and backlight displays and Provide high performance.


Automotive headlight manufacturers can use the SEPIC topology to implement high-beam or low-beam LED array drivers powered directly from the vehicle battery, rather than the traditional two-stage topology using a boost-then-buck converter, or a full-bridge buck -Boost topology. The SEPIC function of Diodes' AL8853AQ supports a buck-boost topology, which is cost-effective and simple, making it ideal for head-up display system functions that are becoming increasingly common in automotive designs.


The AL8853AQ's wide input range (6V to 40V) supports typical 12V vehicle battery voltage input. The 200mV feedback reference voltage has a ±3% tolerance, improving efficiency while maintaining tight brightness control. The AL8853AQ's fixed 400kHz switching frequency supports low electromagnetic interference (EMI) by using a fundamental frequency outside the medium wave (MW) band. Additionally, the controller's fast (50kHz) pulse-width modulation (PWM) to analog dimming mode (100% down to 1%) prevents low- or high-frequency flicker associated with PWM dimming. The AL8853AQ also includes robust protection features to protect against accidental overvoltage, overcurrent, overtemperature, and diode and inductor short-circuit conditions.


The AL8853AQ is AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified, manufactured in a production facility certified to IATF 16949 standards, and passes PPAP. This controller is available in SO-8 package.
