STMicroelectronics launches a small, low-power, high-resolution global shutter image sensor

【Lansheng Technology News】On December 18, 2023, STMicroelectronics launched a global shutter image sensor that can enhance intelligent computer vision. The Global Shutter Pattern sensor helps capture distortion-free images when photographing moving subjects or when using near-infrared light sources to fill in light.

STMicroelectronics' new sensor is smaller at 2.7mm x 2.2mm and has a native resolution of 800 x 700 pixels. Low power consumption means smaller batteries can be used, and imaging performance is excellent, with high contrast and image clarity.

The sensor also provides event-like image streaming capabilities, making it ideal for eye tracking and other motion estimation purposes.

The new global shutter image sensor also features innovative embedded features, such as native background removal that reduces the host’s image post-processing workload. The new sensor also has an "always-on" 1mW autonomous mode that can continue to sense even when the host is turned off, thus saving power. The system automatically wakes up when motion or scene changes are detected.

Samples of STMicroelectronics’ new image sensor VD55G1 are now available, with mass production expected to begin in March 2024.

STMicroelectronics partners offer sensors packaged and embedded in VD55G1 modules to meet the needs of various applications and markets.
